First, Bravo to Lady Gaga and the supporting Cast of Performers. Magnificent Halftime Show!
Listening to the Halftime performance, I was struck by the lyrics of the song, Million Reasons. An emotional rendition, the beautiful performance of Lady Gaga faded into the background as I considered what was being sung.
You’re giving me a million reasons to let you go
You’re giving me a million reasons to quit the show…
In the beginning, I was relating the song to our collective social experience. Whether we are looking at our Leadership as tumultuous, or in the view of Protestors as being the cause of our chaos, we all have a million reasons to quit the show!
Million Reasons is a song about an intimate relationship. But, what a about a life? A way of being? And, what about a country? What makes us actually quit the show.
Life is a game. Chutes and Ladders, Monopoly, Risk…together, these games carry elements of daily life in the human experience. When you slide back down the chutes of life, go to jail, declare bankruptcy or are overtaken by someone stronger when you try to stake your claim, what is your response? Do you quit? Have you met your millionth reason? Or do you stay at it – relationship, country or life?
If I had a highway, I would run for the hills…
…I try to make the worse seem better…
We all have a million reasons to walk away from anything…and sometimes, everything. In my world of mentoring Many on path and purpose, I’ve met with more than a few who have wished to end their time here on Earth. Each circumstance that brings us to our knees is complex in the details, yet each individual has entered the realm of an abyss into the unknown. It’s frightening, filled with unclarity…and, with an awfully lot of voices shouting a million different reasons to do this or that.
Head stuck in a cycle, I look off and I stare
It’s like that I’ve stopped breathing, but completely aware
In the spinning spiral within one’s own self, the inner core is a space of deep solace – a sanctuary. While the world spins around you, this inner sanctum holds a stepping off place where you can become very clear and aware. It is a place of observation and surprisingly quiet. In this space of inner knowing, you can discern.
And if you say something that you might even mean
It’s hard to even fathom which parts I should believe
When you experience the world from the center of your inner beingness, your discernment of true from false is better understood. It is from deep within you that you learn what to believe and when to really walk away…or quit the show…or even change your perception.
I’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
I just need one good one to stay
One good reason to stay. What is it in our humanity that keeps us going forward, returning to good or bad relationships and picking ourselves up again from devastation and disappointment? Is it Love? Fortitude? Joy?
Maybe we have a million reasons to stay and only one reason to quit the show. Dishonesty is the only reason I’ve proactively severed a connection. Yet, when it appears the dishonesty of someone else has been the cause, it always stems back to me not being honest with myself – for a million reasons. And, the only way I’ve been able to resolve removing dishonesty from my life is by being honest within my own beingness.
Until total honesty within oneself is achieved, we will always find a million reasons to accept – put up with – what is dishonest – which is dishonoring to all parties.
When you look at your world, your experiences and your relationship(s), your dishonesty within your own self dishonors you. Avoiding this aspect as true is a pain-full journey of a million reasons – excuses – landing you in a world of chaos and turmoil. If you are dis-honest with yourself, your resonance is attracting dishonesty in others.
You’re I’m giving me a million reasons to let you go
You’re I’m giving me a million reasons to quit the show…
Stay, quit, go, love, be…honesty with yourself in listening to and acting upon the million messages you receive from within will always give you one clear and good reason to do anything – for your own well-being.
Your well-being is the strength and value you contribute to any relationship, cause and outcome – for a million reasons.
